So, of course, I would be the one to get a terrible sunburn even before summer has started… On a happier note, though, happy Thursday my fellow beauty babes! I don’t know about you all, but the weather here where I live has been absolutely gorgeous, which pretty much explains the terrible sunburns I have all up and down my legs, along with my arms. I am so jealous of you natural olive/dark skin beauties out there; you truly are so lucky! However, if you are crazy fair-skinned like your girl here, today I am bringing to you some ways to avoid sunburns and how to deal with them, as summer literally is almost here (YAY)! Also, if you have any other ways to avoid/deal with sunburns, please let me know down in the comments, as I clearly need all the help I can get!
As hats and floppy hats have been super trendy lately, this one seems a bit like a bonus. A place to get super cute and personalized floppy hats is from Doreaaccessories! I follow her on Instagram and her hats are the cutest! I have yet to purchase one since they are kind of pricey, but I plan on budgeting one out in the future!
Such an obvious one, but something that many people don’t care about (I am a culprit)! I am not going to go too into detail about how terrible the sun rays can tear a fair girls skin up, but I am sure you all know the damage that can be done. The higher SPF, the better off you are my friends!
Plan your outdoors adventures before 10am & after 4pm:
This may suck, but in the end, you will be happier and in way less pain (trust me, I can barely move my legs right now). Plus, this can give you an excuse to wake up earlier in the morning and be much more productive!
Stay in the shade:
This is something that I am planning to do, as I have many events ahead of my currently. My mom tells me that being in the shade can still get me burnt, but I am not sure if I truly believe her on that one, let me know what you think down below!
Now, for what I have been living with for 5 days now, dealing with a sunburn!
Stay out of the sun:
I don’t know if I am the only one that this happens to, but when I am in the sun for too long, I sort of feel a little sick when I come back inside for the next few days after. This only happens when I am first out in the beginning of the summer, but I am curious if there is some logical explanation behind this.
Aloe Vera is your best friend:
Pick up some aloe lotion, gel, cream, or anything else. I personally love the gel, because it really makes my skin freeze and it helps with the pain. A tip I also have for you is to place your gel in the fridge before showering and then bring it back out after you have showered and it will help more with healing that pain quickly! I have recently stocked up and currently have 3 huge bottles in my bathroom closet. You can purchase this at just about any store!
I hope you all are staying hydrated with God’s greatest drink (WATER); sunburn or not! Having a sunburn can not only dry out your skin, but your whole body as well. Keep refilling that water bottle several times a day and you should be good to go.
Take a cool shower/bath:
I have read online recently that you should take freezing showers, but I tried that and I just about fainted. I don’t recommend freezing water, as it makes the pain stand out that much more, just do what is most comfortable for you!
Pop an aspirin or two and the pain will (hopefully) subside for the time being. No promises, though!
Sleep it off:
Sleep is one of the best things your damaged skin could have during this rough time. Try to relax, stay away from strenuous activities, and get in some ZZZ’s. It also helps if the room you are sleeping in is colder, as your burnt skin will start to feel like fire.
Most importantly, let it run it’s course:
Sadly, the world has not yet came up with a way to completely heal sunburns almost instantly, as I am pretty sure they never will. Sunburns are seriously a punishment and last for as long as they want to (days-weeks). Just please protect your skin and learn from me (this is not fun)!!!
I hope you all have the greatest summer ever and stay safe. Can’t wait to do some awesome new summer posts, as well! XOXO
